A buzzkill - yes, that's me too. I think. I just don't get most things that other people like - maybe especially what other guys like. I just don't fit in. I tried for a short time, but then I became so fiercely independent (but still friendly) that I gave up trying at all to fit in. I don't watch football on tv. I don't watch tv. I don't listen to any talk show on the radio or podcasts of anyone regularly. I'm pert near entirely self-driven and motivated and I fill my life with doing things that are good for me. I don't have many close friends because, quite frankly - nobody "gets me". I don't even get me sometimes. If I started hearing voices in my ear from another planet that would make a lot more sense to me than does the current state of the world and the reality of this world as I know it. I'm dumbfounded why things are as they are here. I don't see a reason for any of this mess...

I loved your comment though, nonetheless... and see a reason for it. You're almost as wacky as I am my friend. I'll even go read some tvtropes.org for ya and see what kind of enlightenment that brings to the big picture. Thanks for commenting Nathan.

I'm a buzzkill sometimes with my friends. I don't watch tv; I don't watch movies. Sometimes the more curious ones ask why. I treat them to rants about emotional programming, cheap tricks and stunts designed to tittilate with little content and effort. I tell them about formula tearjerkers and scare chords, zoom shots and gorn. It doesn't improve their opinion of me any. It does keep them from pushing such things in my face (or pushing me to such things) in the future. That's good enough. It's like lancing a boil. Take care of the stress forthrightly and it recurs far less often.

Ever read http://tvtropes.org/ before? Even though I don't watch these things very often, it's fascinating to read about the arts behind them. There's real culture in the business, many thousands of brilliant people involved. I keep up on the business without subjecting my neural networks to its products directly.

It just isn't questioned in the USA. You own a TV because everyone in the entire society except a very small percentage - 1/9th of 1%? watches TV. I've gotta find some stats. It's outrageous how many people watch it. Trillions of hours going to waste on nothing but mind-candy for your neurons. Playing a video game is no different and yet parents gripe about their kids playing video... at least it's INTERACTIVE and they are doing things that help them learn and control their environment.

TV is mindless fun. You don't have to do anything... just sit. Eat some popcorn. Fry brain-cells.

Man I hate TV.

Thanks for your posts - nice reading them!

Hey great post

It really is an insidious form of subtle (and not so subtle) mind control that people just let into their home.

Love the blog, you write so quality stuff over here. Will be subscribing!

Hi! Would you believe we don't have TV? :) For the same reason...it is actually last in the list when we got married...that was 14 years ago...Although we had a surplus one for a year, when it malfunctioned, we did not buy another...that was 3 years ago. We only have the radio and when it's on, it's either on news or classical music. With the internet, rarely do my kids use it...only for school assignments.
