Here’s a first look at the trail and waterfall at Sacred Falls Park on the Northeast side of Oahu. The waterfall trail has just re-opened in January 2015.
UPDATE – My mind must have made this up because I want it so bad. I swear I heard my buddy say they re-opened the trail, which makes no sense to me, but he has video and all so I made this post. Apparently it is not open again.
From my buddy’s YouTube video:
Kaliuwa’a Falls is a multistage falls totaling over 1,100 feet high and is located along the Kaluanui stream in Hau’ula, Oahu. This video shows only the 80-foot stage which is accessible by foot. On Mother’s Day (May 9) in 1999, a landslide resulted in many deaths and injuries, prompting the State of Hawaii to close the trail until today.
What?! I never heard that it was re-opening. That is so cool.
When I first moved here back in 1994, Sacred Falls was the first thing I did. Like, I think I went there my first or second weekend on the island. It quickly became my favorite hike, and I was sad when they closed it.
Now we’re getting ready to move to the Mainland — or possibly Big Island — and I was just thinking about how much I would love to go back. I was even thinking of sneaking in haha.
So they just re-opened it. Nice. We will definitely go check it out soon.
Anyways Vern, so the reason I came here was I saw a local affiliate deal and thought of you and your site.
I was just checking my bank account and I noticed that there was a little link that said “Hawaiian Airlines Affiliate Program”, so I clicked it. (This is on my FCU account online). So I guess my credit union is an affiliate with Hwn Airlines.
Anyways, I took a look, and apparently HA has a Commission Junction affiliate program with banner links and all that. So I thought of AimForAwesome and I wondered if you already knew of it and were interested in checking it out to put some targeted ads on here.
Okay man, that is all haha. Aloha and Happy New Year =)
Wow Chris, you frickin’ rock, I’m telling you… First off – don’t go to the trail. I must have grossly misunderstood my buddy that filmed the video. I swear I heard him say or tweet or something – that the trail reopened. No idea where it came from, he didn’t say it. So, yeah, you still have to sneak in. Sorry about that.
The affiliate program sounds perfect. I’ve been looking for a year to find something to monetize the site and only found a coupon – but the guy at that affiliate program is totally unresponsive and only gives 5% commission. I asked for 40%.
I will check out the Hawaii Airlines site – thanks much!
Moving to Big Isle! Nice. Are you on facebook Chris? I’ll look you up in a sec.
Aloha,
Vern
