Free E-Book: New York City, 1989

I put together some images from my New York City Portfolio in e-book format.

In 1989 I went from living in Hawaii to living in New York City. It was so horrible at first, but we all find a way to deal with it. For me, it was photography. I began to devour everything I could read about the subject. For a couple years I walked the streets for 6-15 hours per day shooting freelance photos of whatever caught my eye.

I also started shooting model portfolios at Zoli, one of the top 3 modeling agencies at the time. When he called me in I worked with a fashion photographer as an assistant, loading his Hasselblad cameras by 10’s and 20’s as he went about shooting all day. He had a few lucrative contracts for catalog companies.

That photographer gave me a few hundred rolls of Tri-X 400 film to shoot for free - on my own time. I had a blast, over the next few months I shot and developed over 10,000 black and white photos. I was also shooting color slide film and I must have shot another 10,000 of those each year.

I was working in a custom photo lab developing slide film and proofing and color-correcting slide replications from HBO and many of the major TV networks.

New York City isn’t my favorite place in the world - but it does hold a lot of memories for me. Some are on the pages of this portfolio, some are locked away in my mind.

I hope you enjoy this portfolio, I’ve never shown nor sold these images before.

The file is in “PDF” format and can be downloaded here “New York City 1989 Portfolio“. This file is about 12.4MB and might take 5-10 minutes to download. It’s free - so, wait for it - it’s worth it!
