Moving to Hawaii to Work on a Farm

I found a couple of videos by a guy and his wife, Mike and Danielle Durkee, that moved to Big Island Hawaii to work on an organic coffee farm called “Konacopia” during 2009-2010 – at Kealakekua Bay, near the city of Kona. There are two videos below which show two different places they stayed at, and I’m guessing they are both on Big Island, and both near Kona, Hawaii.

Want to Move to Hawaii and Farm in Exchange for a Place to Stay?

Some info about the Konacopia Farm they stayed at:

Owners of Konacopia Farm, Kona, Hawaii like to have couples in their late 20′s or older who love the outdoors and simple way of life working on the farm. ‘Apprentices’ as they are called, work about 15 hours per week in exchange for a free place to stay – picking fruit and working in the garden. One to three month stays are the average and there is plenty of time to tour the Big Island during off-time. There is room enough for only 2 apprentice couples at a time. Is it possible to move to Big Island Hawaii and work on a farm?

Looks like it!

During the videos he mentions nothing about what they do each day – how many hours they work, where exactly they are located, how much money they make each month – and whether they are charged for the ‘accommodations’. All of which – I’d love to know. After Hawaii they returned to Korea where they were once before, and now they are leaving Korea for the states. Their main site is: MikeDurkee.com and they also have over 200 videos at Youtube about living in various places, and pretty minimalist living.

The Konacopia Organic Coffee Farm is located where all the markers are on this Google map. Unfortunately I cannot find a zip code or Google Map entry for the business.
