When I first came to Hawaii, I went surfing without sunscreen on my backside and the result was 2nd degree burns on the backs of my legs and then 2 days in the hotel room, unable to walk. You can almost always identify visitors by their burned red skin.
For many, Hawaii is the first place they’ve ever visited that is in the tropic zone and they wildly underestimate how strong the sun’s rays are. Aina spells out a few things to keep in mind that I wish I took to heart when I first came here. If you want to avoid wasting days in pain, read it and take it seriously.
Peter, you should also do a short one regarding the use of Sunscreen. And the point I wanted you to stress is regarding the banned ingredients for the island Reefs. Mainland has no regard for the ecosystem when it comes to the lotions available here. We would take over our preferred brands and find out later the DAMAGE done from wearing it there. Maybe it’s not that big of a deal. But I think it IS! You have the ability to reach so many with your platform here. Please do a clip on the sunscreen issue with regard to our Oceans. I can’t remember the two that are the the banned one’s, but it seems important to inform the Howlies how to best relate to the Island and all that has to offer. What you think? Mahalo Peter
Mahalo Kevin! Please write whatever you’d like to add about ecological impact of sunscreen right here so it gets added to the article.
