Why Oahu is the ideal Hawaiian Island Reason #1: Mountains Everywhere

I have many reasons why I believe Oahu is the ideal Hawaiian island. All neighborhoods and suburban clusters on O’ahu are within a close range of mountains. The two mountain ranges on O’ahu are the Ko’olaus and the Waianae ranges. The Waianae is on the West and Ko’olaus are on the East. No matter where you are on the island, you’ll be able to see them. It’s a small island. This means there is hiking everywhere, and most likely within a short distance of your home. Might even be in your backyard! Although all of the islands are beautiful in their own nature, because I lived on O’ahu I have a personal bias for those hikes and their proximity to where I grew up! It’s really amazing to grow up in such a beautiful place where tropical beauty is right outside your front door.

Why Oahu is the ideal Hawaiian Island Reason Reason #2: Downtown Honolulu

O’ahu offers a modern and developed downtown hub for business professionals. In fact, several well-known companies have offices in downtown, as well as local companies, banks, etc. Downtown Honolulu is also the home to our capitol and several government buildings, court houses, etc. For those interested in state government, O’ahu is the place to be. Downtown Honolulu is one of the most developed urban centers of all the islands, that I’ve seen. Although the islands of Hawaii are constantly under development, Honolulu is one of the best urban centers yet. For those looking to transfer with your company to one of their Honolulu offices, that might be an option.

Why Oahu is the ideal Hawaiian Island Reason #3: Nightlife

Honolulu offers the business aspect of urban life, but also captivating nightlife. The Waikiki strip can be compared to something like the Las Vegas strip. Towering hotels, nightclubs, bars and exquisite restaurants line Kalakaua avenue. It’s like the Vegas strip but without the gambling! Waikiki has some of the best nightclubs, and it’s a different night scene when you’ve got the ocean there! Top of Waikiki is one of the well-known restaurants in Waikiki known for its’ 360-degree view of the island and excellent cuisine. There are other restaurants and nightclubs in the area, all of which are very appealing to the younger crowds. Hence, if you love the mountain life but still like nightlife, O’ahu is a great option.

Why is Oahu the ideal Hawaiian Island Reason #4: Everyone Loves Their Dogs

People on O’ahu love their dogs. Everyone walks their dogs in the neighborhood at the same time. Hence, if you have a dog, you’ll get to know people in your neighborhood pretty well. It’s a family-friendly environment. There are local playgrounds in almost every neighborhood. Beaches are welcome to family groups. Kids learn how to surf when they’re 3 years old here. Although all the islands are “family-friendly,” I’ve got a personal bias since I grew up on O’ahu. The only thing you should be careful of in the islands is excessive sun exposure for your littles ones. Because it’s sunny for 365 days of the year, it’s even more of a concern. Be sure to apply ample amount of sunscreen and keep them in the shade for a majority of your time in the sun.
