Three not-so obvious reasons why living in Hawaii is so awesome

Of course Hawaii's weather, people, and scenery are amazing and after living most of my life here I can assure you that never gets old. So we had to really think out of the box for other reasons why Hawaii is so awesome. I did a video on this topic ("Why living in Hawaii feels

Rainbow falls in Hilo, Hawaii

One of the many great things about living in Hawaii is that you get to go to the neighbor islands now and then.  This time I was in Hilo and so (of course!) we went to the famous Rainbow Falls on a picture perfect day. Take a minute (well 0:59 to be exact) and enjoy!

How to get around in Hawaii: we don’t use north and south!

Because we're on an island, relative, landmark based directions are best. No one ever says "it's on the northwest corner" for example. So how does it work here anyway? Our local girl Aina gives you the inside scoop from someone born and raised here. Read: "What’s island life like: makai and mauka directions" now

Let’s go into a fresh lava field in Hawaii

I took a trip to the Big Island and we went into the town of Kalapana which was nearly destroyed by lava flows in the 80s.  Today it's become a visitor destination to explore the lava fields. We were deep in one and I thought I'd take this very quick video to give you a

Honolulu: the big city with the very small town feel

Yes, we started the poke (“po-kay”) craze on the mainland

If you haven't gone for a "Poke Bowl" you don't know what you're missing and I highly recommend that (right after you read this) you drop what your're doing and head for the nearest poke bowl shop and start eating!  Poke is the Hawaiian term for marinated raw fish (typically but not necessarily Ahi tuna)
